What is Hearing Assistive Technology?

HAT is any piece of technology that helps you access auditory information. It could be a hearing aid, a cochlear implant, a microphone system, or a combination of things (and to complicate things there are a variety of different types of each of those).

Why Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT)?

HAT can improve a Deaf (hard of hearing) person's access to their environment by helping to increase the signal in noise ratio. You know the ability to hear someone talking - even if there is noise in the background or from across the room.

Of course HAT doesn't help everyone, but when it helps it's very beneficial. Please ask your audiologist what will work best with your hearing levels. Then share that information with your school and/or Teacher of the Deaf.
